ORDE PASSERIFORMES Zangvogels
Familie Certhiidae. Deze vogels komen voor in Noord- en Midden-Amerika, Afrika, Europa en Azië. Ze danken hun naam aan hun opmerkelijke gedrag: ze kruipen langs de stammen omhoog op zoek naar voedsel, insecten. Boomkruipers nestelen in gaten en spleten in bomen, achter losse boomschors en in klimop.
Het verenkleed is bruin met lichtere onderdelen. Ze hebben een dunne, omlaaggebogen snavel. De lichaamslengte varieert van 10 tot 16,5 cm.
Het nest is samengesteld uit twijgen, schors en mos en heeft de vorm van een losse hangmat. Het legsel bevat 2 tot 9 eieren, die door het vrouwtje 14 tot 15 dagen worden bebroed. Beide ouders voeren de jongen, die na 14 tot 16 dagen het nest verlaten.
